You work hard to create engaging content. You want to do everything possible to make sure your audience opens and reads your email.
ALL CAPS
Don't shout. Your content should speak for itself. If you have something interesting to say that will help your audience, you won't need to shout to get your message across.
Sending to generic addresses (info@, sales@ etc.)
Generic addresses are red flags for spam filters. An email sent to these addresses are generally not meant for a single person. Keep in mind that your emails are just another part of a conversation you are having with your audience.
Spammy greetings
Nothing sounds better than your own name. The same goes for reading it. If you are following proper list building techniques, you should have your subscribers name. Use it! They are much more likely to open your email if they know the message really is for them.
Misleading subject lines
This should be a no-brainer. Avoid words and phrases like Sale, buy now, Click here to.., only $..You will get penalised by SPAM filters.
High email frequency (multiple emails to the same prospect everyday)
Other than the risk of the dreaded spam filter flagging your email, you might also annoy your recipient if you bombard them with several emails a day. Rather consolidate your message into one strong, interesting email that will ensure they keep opening your mailers.
Multiple recipients with the same domain
Even though you might have several legitimate subscribers with the same domain name, this can still trigger SPAM filters. To avoid the spam folder, make sure you don't make any of the other mistakes on this list.
Purchased list
If you use a purchased list you are bound to get SPAM complaints. Rather do the hard work upfront and build a list of people who want to listen to what you have to say.
